In 2016 Wahoo hit upon a game changer with the ELEMNT computer sparking the hashtag #wahooligans. Fast forward to 2017 and Wahoo’s new ELEMNT BOLT is set to further the competition against the computer giants.
Taking the internal workings of the ELEMNT, they have gone and designed a new aerodynamic chassis that reduces wind resistance whilst providing the same intuitive upfront information you require. That paired with the integrated out front mount and Wahoo claim this produces an angle to optimize your view of the screen.
There are some subtle differences from the original ELEMNT like screen size, weight and LED’s but performance wise it doesn’t disappoint with all of the same connectivity and Features. Within this smaller unit you get only a few hours less battery life which will appeal to those who pack the long miles in and also the same mapping featured on the ELEMNT BOLT. This paired with Strava connectivity means you can get all the information you need when you need it. Another big benefit to this is the connectivity to the KICKR and KICKR SNAP. You can get full control of your trainer from your computer with some great functions like ERG mode which allows you to set targets around wattage and cadence and the ability to relive your GPS routes by adjusting the resistance on the trainer to simulate the elevation of your ride. Having both indoor and outdoor abilities covered makes this a very intuitive companion whatever the weather has to offer.
Are Wahoo set to take over the market with their innovative designs and fresh approach? We will let you decide, but here at Cycled HQ we were very impressed with their new release for 2017. Not only does it appear to pack the functionality of previous products but it is a great looking unit, and perhaps even could have Garmin looking over their shoulder in the months and years to come.
